The Asthma Patient from Hell
Aug 29, 2024The ambulance phone rings. They are 5 minutes away with a 32 yo patient with history of asthma who has had two hours of shortness of breath and wheeze. She has a heart rate of 120bpm, a respiratory rate of 40, a systolic blood pressure of 100 mm Hg and saturations of 93% and her GCS is 13-14.
Patients die due to complacency....be prepared.
On arrival this patient was tripoding with marked dyspnoea and paradoxical chest wall movements. She was pale, clammy, confused and tired.
